January Small Stone# Nine

Midweek. What to do to make Humpday pass well? On Sunday I walked at Bowling Green Marsh and the weather was dismal, damp and mizzely. There were hundreds, perhaps thousands of resting migratory birds, but I didn’t have my camera and I had my hands full with the dogs. This was the best I could do with my phone camera. DSC_0008

These out of focus sweeties are widgeon. Today, the sky was brilliant blue, so I checked the tide tables and convinced a hobbit that he needed to drive me. I promised him treats – he’s a bird lover, he prefers birds of prey really but has never been there.  I still only had my phone camera, but this was the view. DSC_0033I ran him down the lane, into the hide and then to the viewing platform. Pretty good for a lunchtime jaunt eh?

Gilly Mbachu Goldsworthy is a mum to two kids that are supposed to be grown up and mma to a four year old and a new born baby boy. None of that means that I am grown up though! I love writing – travel and quite edgy fiction – and being an OU student for a degree which remains to be seen. What I do best though is counselling; I’ve been privileged to work with many people through big changes.

    Hi,
Very nice photos from your phone camera. I love the first photo with the mist in the background, very nice.

  3. The hobbit likes this.

Isn’t it strange to think that a mere 5 minutes of driving can separate the insanity of an open plan office in Wonford and a gorgeous capsule of tranquility along the estuary.

Next time I will be armed with a super zoom camera in anticipation of catching a glimpse of an osprey. An osprey on the estuary…well, well! Who would have thought it, huh?

  4. Looks like a lovely walk despite the mizzely weather! Nice photos from your phone camera, Gilly!

That’s better than any of my lunchtime jaunts.

migratory birds – they are a global wonder!

  7. It’s amazing what a bit of Sun can do. The first picture was exciting , with all the birds feeding and resting. There’s a lot of white birds around Houston feeding on the green grass and close to the lakes. Just don’t know what they are.

Ooh, I could do with a little trip in the sun. I know it’s there, I’ve seen it out of the window. Best I could do at lunchtime was to slap some paint on a journal page. I suppose that counts as ‘leisure’ too……..?

It does yes, but I have to try to get some light each day at lunch while the days are so short. So glad I went yesterday because today it rained and I walked for twenty minutes with my umbrella.

  9. Yes, Gilly, they are pretty good :-)
