Sunday Post: Black and White

It’s Jake Day! and the theme is black and white. I like black and white but generally not when I try it.  My all time favourite photographer, the late James Ravilious, worked in black and white. He was a local man, here is a link to some of his photos. http://www.jamesravilious.com/gallery.asp he captured everyday life in a period of great change.

My photo started life in colour and I quite like the change because of the different textures, including the sky.

Hop over to http://jakesprinters.wordpress.com/2012/08/18/sunday-post-black-white/ for some more interpretations.

Ooh, WordPress has just told me that this is my 300th post!

And I have to add this photo for Jo Bryant!

Gilly Mbachu Goldsworthy is a mum to two kids that are supposed to be grown up and mma to a four year old and a new born baby boy. None of that means that I am grown up though! I love writing – travel and quite edgy fiction – and being an OU student for a degree which remains to be seen. What I do best though is counselling; I’ve been privileged to work with many people through big changes.

To celebrate your 300th post dear Gilly.
And thank you for the photo – I love it !!!!
I guess I KNOW where that one was taken…hehehe  ;)

  6. Nice! Of course, I don’t know what the color version looks like, but I suspect this photo may work better in grayscale – the lack of color allows you to focus on all those interesting, different textures.

  7. And CONGRATULATIONS on number 300!

And the photos are awesome…you know, you are right…the B&W pics let us see the textures and character of the people or objects much better than with color. :)

Great B&W shots Gilly, particularly the second one! And congratulations on the 300th post :-)

  17. Beautiful images. The black and white effect made it stand out and makes one think deeper. Brilliant!

  18. I do like the sky in he first one but the photo with the trees looks really great in black and white. The shadows that have been created take on a mysterious look. The branches are sticking out are accentuated against the background sky. Well done, Gilly.
Congratulations on 300 fabulous posts …!!!!

300th post! That’s awesome. And the photo for Jo is awesome. You two did a great job this week. Love the angle of the first shot. Adds to the drama.

Great photos, both of them, Gilly! I like the simplicity of the house, especially the textures, as you say. They really “pop” in black and white.
And congratulations on the 300th post! Those trees are a frightening way to celebrate, though. :D

  21. Nice and the architecture is interesting too!

  22. These look good, Gilly. Even in black and white
